i had to cater a party on friday night, turned out a lot of the guests and host were argentinian!! that was lucky. i got there early and stopped at the book store downstairs, shakespeare and co, started reading gore vidal and then found this reiew of calvino he wrote for the nyrb (thanks toby for discouraging me from ever reading it)

"During the last quarter century Italo Calvino has advanced far beyond his American and English contemporraries. As tehy continue to look for the place wehre the spiders make thier nests, Calvino has not only found that special place, but learned how himself to make fantastic webs of prose to which all things adhere. In fact, reading Calvino, I had hte unnerving sense that I was also writing what he had written; thus does his art prove his case as writer and reader become one, or One."

Of course as I am writing my personal statement for grad school applications I am becoming aware again of how my influences often include authors to a greater extent than artists. I recently went crazy in a moment of synchronicity, listening to Stan Brakhage start quoting HD!!!!! and another synchronicitous moment: i was approached by my friend eleonore to audition in a film by director martin de thurah- who is danish, right as i am planning a trip to denmark, to visit my brother walker who is going to school/work on a dig there this spring, and ALSO reading andrea zittel simultaneously, i turn the page to her A-Z POCKET PROPERTY project, where she built her own special floating island, which takes place in Denmark!
